Year In Review・2017
2017 was a very busy year because it was the year where I did a lot of things for the blog, and for my academic life. This year has been hard for me though, in terms of self-care, just because I was running around for almost everyone but myself.
Still, I'm happy with the results of this year, and even though there have been political events that makes me sad, I'm reminded everyday that despite all that pain, there is also hope and good in the world. And that is what I aim to do with this blog post, and this blog in general.
So check out when I got up to/accomplished this year :)
P.S. This blog post is NOT meant to be a brag. It's just a way for me to look back at in the future as well, to remember what I did which year. I have a very bad memory!
thesofieyahdiaries began (Jan 01)
I had been working on this since October 2016, so I was pretty excited about this new launch. I was and still am extremely proud of where my blog is right now, and how much it has evolved.
But I am also extremely proud of how much my blog has changed me, and who I am. I wouldn't be who I am today, creatively and emotionally, without this part-time 'job' I have.
Began the Bullet Journal system (Jan 12)
Something I literally knew about around beginning of January, but I was in need of a new project and to do something creative with my life, so I literally jumped into it.
And even though I haven't been doing it for awhile (aka the past four months) I know I'll be doing it again once senior year is over.
the sofieyah diaries became the sophia diaries (May 03)
I was honestly tired of having to phonetically spelling my name out when people asked me what my blog was called. So I decided to just change it...and also because people who emailed me would think that my name is spelled like that 😂
Vancouver with S/O (Jun 26)
I firmly believe that for you to know who you are dating, you should go on a trip with them. My S/O and I try to go traveling at least once or twice a year. Vancouver isn't new to either one of us, but it is new to us as a couple. So we decided to stay closer to home during the summer :)
Senior year began (Sep 6)
Honestly, this was the most scariest part. I came back to campus, and even though I was calling myself a senior, I still remembered my first-year, and the first time I stepped on campus. It's honestly still surreal to me, as I'm writing this. But at least I can say that I'm a senior now without cringing (it took me about 2 months to be able to say it with a straight face).
the sophia diaries' hiatus (Sep)
There is no good way to talk about this, but if you want the more in depth reasoning behind this hiatus, read this 'Where I've Been' post.
This was painful for me, not only because I loved blogging, but also because I didn't like that school was preventing me from doing something I loved. But I also knew that if I had kept up with it, I would've gotten burned out really quickly, and started hating this project I love so much. So I decided that instead of half-assing it, I would just save the content I've accumulated. And I'm honestly so excited to share that content with you very soon!
Honors Thesis project approved (Sep 28)
I had been working on my honors thesis since Fall of 2016 (the 2016-2017 academic year) and I was super happy and grateful that my thesis project got approved.
I haven't revealed what my honors thesis is yet, but I plan on writing a very extensive blog post about it, with the results. But I believe a lot of you would be fascinated by the findings, so stay tuned!
Family came to visit for Family Weekend (Oct 13)
My parents had been talking about visiting Smith for Family Weekend since First-Year. And honestly, it's been hard for me to see everyone's parents come to visit them during that weekend, and I couldn't. Still, I was so happy that they came, and they also came at a time when the weather was beautiful. I'm very grateful to my parents.
S/O officially approved to be moving to Boston (Nov 13-ish)
For those who have been here for awhile, you would know that I'm in a Long Distance Relationship, and have been for the past 5 years. And it's been hard, for both me and my bf. But because his job has a lot of leeway for him to move, he decided to move to a new city to start afresh. I'm really happy about the move just because he'll be at Boston the semester of school I need him the most :) So I'm happy.
S/O preleased an apartment in Boston (Nov 25)
He officially put in a security deposit for an apartment, which makes it official! And I've basically been looking at home decor/interior design posts/pictures for the last month xD
Going back to China (Dec 26)
Honestly, I haven't been back to China since 5 years ago, so it's been awhile. And even last time I went it wasn't with my whole family. The last time I went with my whole family was 7 years ago. Anyway, this time I'll be visiting HK and Guangzhou. So I'm happy to be back where my parents were born.
Actually, when you read this I'll already be at China. Hopefully Squarespace isn't barred by China. >_<
