'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' Review

I am a semi-big Harry Potter fan in that I love the movies and the characters, but not super crazy about the franchise like some people I know.

When the trailer came out for this movie, I was extremely iffy about going to see it, just because I feel like J.K. Rowling had left it in a good place.

But the idea of a prequel to the famous series almost compelled me to go watch it. So I did, and I dragged my sister and boyfriend with me.

I will try hard not to put any spoilers in, but if I do, you'll know very obviously.

There wasn't a lot of magic in the movie. Yes, they got wands, they got magical creatures, but it seems like the part about using their wand is a lot less impressive than the original HP movies. But there is enough to at least satisfy you for seeing it in the big screen again.

There are a lot of characters in this movie to keep track of, and they do not have very impressionable names. Or, at least, the no-majs (American for muggles) have easy names but the wizards do not.

The plot of the movie was very compelling, and even at times moving. In fact, it was so moving at times that it made my sister cry! Like full blown crying...it kind of freaked me out lol

But don't worry, there were also some good funny parts too. In fact, my theory is that if it wasn't for the no-maj in the story, there wouldn't be as much laughs as they actually is.

What was great about the movie is the direction. Because of the fact the director played with the camera, there were many plot twists in the movie that didn't actually hit you until it was too late and it was because you would've made assumptions based on the history of the camera. So that was a great surprise in the movie and the director gets a good clap on the back for that.

Were there any distinctly bad parts about the movie? Absolutely not. There was nothing bad about it, that I can talk about.

But it just didn't feel as satisfying or excitement-inducing as the Harry Potter movies did. In my head though, it may also be because of my inherent bias and unrequited love for HP to begin with. Still, if you are a fan in any way, I definitely recommend watching the movie.

And if you do, let me know what you think ;)
